PostHeaderIcon Are You Broadcasting When You Should Be Tuning In?

Recently I’ve been writing a lot about missed opportunities. I write as much to myself as to anyone else. It helps me think. It offers me a few minutes to sit down and give some honest thought to the opportunities around me and determine whether or not I’m taking advantage of them appropriately. In this uncertain economy it’s important to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way.

I share my thoughts and I sincerely hope they benefit my audience, share some insights into our company and offer you an opportunity to think about your own business.

This morning I read this quote, “Opportunity is often missed because we are broadcasting when we should be tuning in”. I can’t find an author associated with it so unfortunately I can’t offer credit to the very intelligent person who said it.

It makes me think. How often this week have I been broadcasting when I should have been tuning in? How often have I eagerly shared my expertise without really listening to the person in front of me? Have I missed out on a new client? A new business partner? A new connection? Maybe I’ve simply missed hearing a great idea.

As we aggressively become more and more involved in social media it’s easy for me to get so excited about the new programs and services we’re offering that I forget to ask what our potential partners are looking for. I forget to ask what they want before I start telling them what we offer.

As we end one week and get ready for the next my intentions are to eliminate yet one more missed opportunity for my business. My goal should be to reach out to those around me, get to know them and tune in to their needs. Relationships first – business second. That’s the foundation of what we at Team Double-Click® have always believed. Today I’m grasping this opportunity to take a step back and remember why we got started doing what we’re doing to begin with and get back to doing the things that made us successful in the first place.
